UNDERSTANDING SUMMER HILL BUSINESSES
OBJECTIVE:
Students will learn the difference between jobs that provide a service and jobs that provide a good.
INSTRUCTIONS:
(1) Have students define the terms "service" and a "good."
(2) Have students brainstorm the types of jobs people of the Summer Hill community perform. Have students determine whether each job provides a service or good.
(3) Explain the importance of having businesses that provide services and goods in their community.
Conclusion:
Ask the class the following questions:
Why do communities need people who provide services as well as goods?
What would happen to a community if there were no businesses in town?
